Der Kern des heutigen Baus wurde gegen 780 unter Abtbischof Sintpert errichtet. Damalige Hauptkirche des Klosters St. Emmeram, die 1731 zur Fürstabtei erhoben wurde

Le noyau de l'édifice actuel fut construit vers 780 sous l'abbé-évêque Sintpert. L'église principale du monastère St. Emmeran devint abbaye princière en 1731

Um 1050 entstand ein geräumiges Westquerhaus mit Hallenkrypta. Nach dem Brand von 1166 wurde das Langhaus verändert. 1642 wurde das Mittelschiff durch einen Brand zerstört.

Die Kirche wurde wieder aufgebaut

Un vaste transept occidental et une crypte halle furent construits vers 1050. La nef fut modifiée après l'incendie de 1166. La nef centrale fut de nouveau détruite en 1642 par un autre incendie et l'église reconstruite
