L'église précédente appartenait d'abord à un prieuré de l'abbaye Saint-Amans de Rodez, puis dépendit de l'abbaye Saint-Victor de Marseille qui la céda en 1166 au chapitre de la cathédrale de Rodez jusqu'à la Révolution
